Underhill has released a new 2Wire™ Decoder Control System that quickly converts any Hunter® ICC Controller to two-wire operation.
The Underhill system, which has recently been introduced to the U.S. market, includes the 2Wire™ ICC Decoder Module and 2Wire™ Decoders.
The two-wire technology behind the Underhill system has been utilized in more than 100,000 decoders installed throughout Europe in the last 10 years.
Underhill’s new 2Wire™ ICC Decoder Module easily snaps into any 32-station Hunter ICC Controller and increases the capacity to 48 stations. All stations, or only selected stations, can be converted to two-wire operation. Two-wire technology has proven a cost-saving alternative on sites such as sports fields, cemeteries, HOA common areas, parks, and schools.
ICC Decoder Modules connect directly to Underhill 2Wire field decoders, which can be installed anywhere along a two-wire path. Up to 96 valves can be controlled by one 48-station ICC with one or two decoders per station.
2Wire Decoder station numbers can be programmed through the ICC controller module or in the field with the use of an optional push-button programmer. Both the decoder modules and field decoders have a two-year warranty that includes lightning protection, even with direct hits. No field grounding is required for the decoders, however, it is recommended that the ICC controller is properly grounded via the Decoder Module.
Two-wire systems offer a range of cost-saving benefits, including material and labor savings on projects with more than 300 feet of mainlines or at least a quarter acre of landscaping. Two-wire also offers the ability to expand the system at any time by adding more valves and decoders anywhere along the two-wire path.
Repairs and troubleshooting are also simplified with only two wires to reconnect in the event of a break, rather than the 15 to 40 control wires typically used in a conventional multi-wire system.
Two-wire systems have been installed successfully in Europe for 20 years and have gained popularity in the U.S. because of lower installation and maintenance costs, and more flexibility to add zones during orafter installation. Underhill 2Wire system technology has been installed on sites worldwide, among them sports fields, school and college campuses, parks, cemeteries and nurseries.
