The Perkins County Sheriff’s Office is investigating vandalism to the Grant Golf Course that occurred in mid-February.
Destruction of the course has put a damper on the eagerness of those who are ready to get the game underway this spring.
According to golf club member Dale Styskal, the damage was discovered on fairway #2 and turned in by Dave Vapenik, brother of course superintendent Zane Vapenik.
A $2,500 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved in the destruction.
According to Sheriff Jim Brueggeman, the incident, which is believed to have occurred between the late evening hours of Sunday, Feb. 13 and early morning hours of Tuesday, Feb. 15, is under investigation by the Perkins County Sheriff’s Office.
Members of the Grant Golf Club are very disturbed and concerned over recurring damage at the golf course.
It will take a lot of time, effort and expense to restore the course to its original smoothness and beauty due to the deep ruts created by the vandals.
It has been estimated that it could cost as much as $15,000 to restore the fairway and green of hole #2. The cost could be even more, depending on what it looks like once the grass comes out of dormancy.
