CGSA Renames Annual Conference, Announces Theme for 2016 Event (Jul17)

July 17, 2015 – The Canadian Golf Superintendents Association (CGSA) is gearing up to celebrate its 50th Anniversary in 2016. As part of that golden anniversary celebration, the association has decided to rebrand its annual conference and trade show and is pleased to introduce the Canadian Golf Course Management Conference.

Previously known as the Canadian International Turfgrass Conference and Trade Show, the new Canadian Golf Course Management Conference will continue the tradition of providing the largest education and trade show event for the golf course management profession in Canada. It will continue to provide an extensive array of seminars and workshops for superintendents and related staff while also showcasing the product and service providers that superintendents rely on to do their job. The inaugural Canadian Golf Course Management Conference (CGCMC) is scheduled to take place from January 11-15, 2016 in Toronto, ON.

“The decision to rebrand the event was based on a desire of the association to have the name better reflect what it is that golf course superintendents do on a day-to-day basis,” says CGSA President Kyle Kellgren.

“Their job is no longer just the management of the turf and its condition. Superintendents are also very involved in budgeting and finance, human resource management, health and safety, facility management and the myriad of legislative requirements that impact the biggest asset at a golf facility; the golf course itself,” says Kellgren.

The 2016 Conference Coordinating Committee has met several times and initially proposed the change. The Board of Directors agreed unanimously to the change and is now pleased to announce the annual conference name change to CGCMC along with the theme of the 50th Anniversary event; Green is Golden….50 Years.

The CGSA is partnering with the Ontario Golf Superintendents’ Association (OGSA) for this event and it promises to honour the CGSA’s 50 years and its role in supporting and enhancing the position of Golf Course Superintendent.
