With the goal of raising as much money as possible for local charities, Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa, as well as Travel Dubuque and other sponsors, are holding a one-day golf tournament featuring some of sports’ greatest legends. On Wed., Aug. 10, the five-person teams, consisting of four golfers and a “legend” captain, will compete on The General golf course set among 6,800 acres of The Galena Territory at Eagle Ridge. Golfers will enjoy a day of great food and hospitality while raising funds for charities including the Field of Big Dreams charity and Cubs Charities.
“The LEGENDS Dream Big Charity Golf Tournament is just one day before the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds are scheduled to play at the Field of Dreams Movie Site, in Dyersville, Iowa, so a lot of sports legends will be in the area,” said Colin Sanderson, director of sales and marketing for Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa. “They’re looking forward to being a part of the tournament and raising money for local charities focused on our youth.”
Sports legends in the tournament include Hall-of-Famer and former White Sox player Frank “the Big Hurt” Thomas, who owns the Field of Dreams Movie Site and is founder of the Field of Big Dreams charity. Other participants include former Bear, WGN Radio Host and NFL Hall-of-Famer Dan Hampton, five-time MLB all-star George Foster, and baseball Hall-of-Famer and former Cub Arthur “Fergie” Jenkins. More legends and actors golfing as captains include Ken Griffey Sr., Drew Storen, Jacque Jones, Davey Concepcion, Tim Raines, Bob Howry, Dan Evans, Carlos Zambrano, and Kyle Farnsworth. A complete list of participants can be found at eagleridge.com.
There is limited availability to play on one of the tournament’s fivesomes, which will consist of 90 golfers and 18 teams, each with a sports legend as a captain. Sponsorships are available including hole, golf ball, beverage, and cocktail reception sponsor opportunities.
