First full season wraps at Landmand

The Landmand course in eastern Nebraska has closed after its first full season of operations, and, according to general manager Adam Fletcher, it has been a busy summer.

“The entire season’s tee sheet was completely booked out by mid-March, so every day was consistently packed and exciting,” he says. “It was amazing to see golfers’ enthusiasm for visiting the course – they would often show up hours before their tee time, so they could just drink in the atmosphere ‘Up Top’. Seeing people who had travelled from all over the world to come play here was a daily highlight for me.”

Despite 2023 being the course’s first full season, Landmand played host to several events of significance, including the Nebraska State Mid-Am, for a second successive year, in August, and, in the same month, the Nebraska vs Kansas Junior Cup, which saw the host state win the Cup back for the first time in three years. What Fletcher describes as a ‘memorable breeze’ hit the course during the two day Member Field event for the course’s Pioneer members. “Our 24 foot windsock was absolutely maxed out – definitely a weekend to keep the ball low to the ground,” he says.

Landmand’s season ended with a bang on October 10-11, when the University of South Dakota hosted seven college teams for the 54-hole ‘Throw Down Up Top’. “Several golfers flirted with our course record of 66, but it held out,” says Fletcher.

“It has been a memorable year, and I am so grateful to our staff for their efforts,” says owner and developer Will Andersen. “As with every golf course, our staff are the heart and soul of Landmand. They make the experience unforgettable.”

Landmand will open for 2024 on May 17, and 2024 tee times will be made available on the website, www.landmandgc.com, on December 31 at 8am CST.

About Landman

Pronounced ‘Landman’, ‘Landmand’ is the Danish word for a farmer. The eighteen year old Karl Andersen came to the US from Denmark in the early 1920s, and settled in eastern Nebraska. Over four generations, the Andersen family has become a major farming operation in the area. The family developed the Old Dane golf course in 2012, and Landmand will be its second such operation. Despite this move into the golf business, farming will remain the backbone of the Andersen operation. The family is wholly committed to the area and community of eastern Nebraska, and hopes this new endeavour will bring it to new heights.
