Hokuli’a Appoints Barry Bevers As New Club General Manager

Hokuli’a, a spectacular private residential enclave on Hawai`i Island, has announced the appointment of Barry Bevers as the Club’s new General Manager. Following a successful year of real estate sales, and a recent golf course renovation and amenities upgrades, Bevers will lead operations of Hokuli’a and its continued trajectory as one of the top clubs in Hawai`i.

Barry Bevers as the Club’s new General Manager

Bevers represents the third General Manager in Hokulia’s history, signifying a warm welcome to a tight-knit residential community and club. Previously, he served as General Manager for 20 seasons at The Valley Club in Sun Valley, Idaho, which has a membership of 750 families. During his tenure at The Valley Club, Bevers was involved in more than $48 million in capital and asset maintenance projects, including construction of a new nine-hole course, a fitness and racquets facility, and renovations of the golf course and clubhouse.

“Barry Bevers has an outstanding reputation and is well known as both a financially responsible club leader, and an influential, approachable mentor,” said Bruce Totten, Club President. “We look forward to having him at the helm to shape the next chapter at Hokuli’a.”

Bevers joins the Hokuli’a management team following the club’s recent debut of its golf course and club amenities renovations. Enhancements made at Hokuli’a include newly added bunkers and greens, expanded landscaping, an updated dining facility, refinished tennis courts and the addition of two new pickleball courts.

“Throughout my many years in the private club space, Hokuli’a has long impressed me,” said Bevers. “From the moment I first became familiar with its club, golf course, amenities, residential offerings, and its people, I knew it could be somewhere I could call home. I look forward to spearheading a wonderful 2023 year and beyond for our members and staff.”

Bevers is a graduate of Texas Tech University in Hospitality Management and has been designated as a Certified Club Executive (CCE) and Certified Club Manager (CCM). He is also a former chapter president with the Club Management Association of America. Barry and his wife, Jennifer, have four grown children between the ages of 19 and 27.

About the Hokuli’a Development Project

Hokuli’a is a 500-lot luxury residential community spanning 1,260 uncrowded acres along Hawai’i Island’s famed Kona Coast. With three miles of elevated, west-facing shoreline, the property is set away from the island’s densely populated resort bubbles. Hokuli’a offers members access to an award-winning Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course and best-in-class amenities including an exquisitely-designed clubhouse, Pavilion restaurant, ocean adventures, sports-courts and aquatic activities.

The developer is SunChase Holdings and capital investors are William A. Pope and S. Robson “Rob” Walton. Pope and Walton purchased Hokuli’a in 2014 after recognizing the unique and majestic qualities of the land and the rare opportunity to fulfill a grand vision for the community. The Hokuli’a development project is managed under the direct leadership of Duane Grimsman, Senior Vice President of Sunchase Holdings, who possesses over 32 years of experience managing large master planned development communities throughout the U.S. and in Europe.  The development project is privately funded by its capital partners and The Club at Hokuli’a is owned and operated by the existing Club members.
