Holmes Golf Course plans unveiled

The Lincoln Parks and Recreation Advisory Board got a first look at a proposed $1.5 million clubhouse and its location at Holmes Golf Course Thursday.

The new clubhouse will be east of the “temporary” one built in 1964 and expected to be torn down in the 1980s and will offer 5,900 square feet of floor space compared to 3,200 square feet.

The project will require bonds and be paid off by golf fees. The city expects to begin construction in February, with completion by spring 2013. Erickson Sullivan was chosen as the architectural firm.

Steve Hiller, of Parks and Recreation, said the old clubhouse will be demolished after the new one is built.

“Once the older building is demolished, the new building will offer the special view that we have at Holmes of the state Capitol and downtown Lincoln,” Hiller said.

Parks and Recreation recently retired the $4.2 million bond issued to build the Highlands Golf Course in northwest Lincoln. Those bonds were paid for by a community improvement program fee tacked onto golfer fees.

The new clubhouse will include a snack bar, pro shop, golfer lounge, deck, large patio and two “gathering rooms” to attract banquets, dinners and other functions that do not fit into the old clubhouse.
