New turf cuts council’s course costs
WHILE Marrickville Council is embroiled in a passionate public debate on the size of its golf course, its Strathfield counterpart has found a cheaper way of maintaining a course.
Strathfield Council has completed a sustainability project at Hudson Park Golf Club using a revolutionary new turf.
The upgrade involved re-turfing the 18 greens and two practice greens to a new Australian-first, drought-resistant turf species, irrigation upgrades and tree and root pruning.
The project is expected to save the council up to $40,000 a year by reducing operational costs. It’s part of Sydney Water’s Irrigation and Landscape Efficiency Project, with the council receiving $62,500 from the federal government towards the upgrades.
Mayor Paul Barron said the upgrade was a major sustainability achievement by the council.
