Prince Course at Princeville Resort in Hawaii closing for renovation

Hawaii’s top-ranked golf course, the Prince Course at Princeville Resort on Kauai, will close on January 29 to undergo approximately five months of renovation. A complete renovation of the bunkers began in September 2010, and the Prince will close to allow completion of the project along with other planned upgrades to the world-renowned course. The last day of play will be January 28, with a reopening planned for summer 2011.

“We are very excited about this refurbishment,” notes Steve Murphy, Director of Golf for the Prince Course. “We are proud of the Prince’s top ranking over the years, and these improvements will help us maintain the overall quality of the course and the first class guest experience.”

The Tavern Restaurant by Roy Yamaguchi and the Prince Golf Shop, both located in the 60,000-square-foot Prince Clubhouse, will continue to operate during the renovation. The Tavern will be open for lunch starting at 11 a.m. and dinner from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily. The Golf Shop’s operating hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and closed Sunday.

Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., the 18-hole Prince Course opened in 1990 on Kauai’s north shore. The spectacular course is considered to be one of the top resort courses in the nation by the major golf publications. The Prince is ranked by Golf Digest as the number one golf course in Hawaii and is the only course in the state to be recognized on the magazine’s prestigious list of America’s “Top 100 Greatest Courses” for 2009/2010. The Prince is known equally for its challenging play and magnificent layout, following the natural contours of the land and encompassing 390 acres of rolling terrain, tropical jungles, gullies, streams, and waterfalls.
