Renovation work nears completion at Moraine Country Club course (Sept 17)

September 17, 2015 – A major renovation project at the Moraine Country Club course is nearing completion.

Architect Keith Foster has advised on the project, working alongside the club’s superintendent Jason Mahl and his team.

The Moraine Country Club course was originally designed by Alec Campbell and opened in 1930.

16 of the greens at the course in Dayton, Ohio have been reconstructed and are now complete. The remaining four greens – those on holes 9 and 18 and two practice holes – will be completed over the next two weeks.

The project has also seen the regrassing of 17 fairways, 12 of which have now been completed. The remaining five have now been fumigated and will be seeded shortly.

A number of bunkers have been added to the course, and once work is complete, the course will have around 61 bunkers, having previously only had 47.

Approximately 30ft of rough has been killed and reseeded around the fairways, and once all fairways have been reseeded, Mahl and his team will evaluate and expand the rough renovation areas.

“I have pushed my staff very hard over the past few months and they have responded with hard work and determination to ensure this project is a success,” said Mahl. “Considerable tee work remains to be completed. Given that some of this work will be occurring in October, the decision to seed these tees or sod them will be made at the time of completion – with the variable being the type of fall weather we experience.”
