Sticks for Kids/GAIN(tm) – Inclusive Golf Training Scheduled

The National Alliance for Accessible Golf (Alliance) and the Golf Course Builder’s Association of America (GCBAA) are holding a joint workshop August 29-30, 2011 that will empower golf professionals, therapeutic and recreation specialists, and interested individuals with the knowledge and tools to teach the game of golf to individuals with disabilities and subsequently operate accessible and inclusive golf programs.

The GCBAA Foundation is hosting the workshop at Highlands Golf Course, Lincoln, NE. The course recently hosted the 2010 Summer Special Olympics Golf Tournament .

The workshop will be presented by the Alliance’s Golf: Accessible and Inclusive Networks (GAINTM) specialists Gary Robb and Judith Alvarez. This dynamic team brings many years of golf and inclusive training knowledge. Gary Robb is the recently retired Executive Director of the National Center on Accessibility at Indiana University. Mr. Robb was also an Associate Professor in the Department of Recreation and Park Administration, School of HPER at Indiana University, a past president of the National Therapeutic Recreation Society and a member of the Board of Trustees of the National Recreation and Park Association.

LPGA/PGA Professional Judith Alvarez has more than 30 years of experience in the golf industry including the design and implementation of first-class instructional programs for students of all skill levels. Ms. Alvarez is currently a PGA of America Military National Golf trainer with the Wounded Warrior Project and golf instructor with Mariner Sands CC in Stuart, Florida.
