The Empire State Green Industry Show has been set for January 11-13 in Rochester, N.Y.

Hosted by the New York State Turfgrass Association and New York State Arborists … ISA Chapter, the show will feature education sessions and events tailored for those who work in all aspects of the green industry. Accredited education sessions will also be offered on golf turf, sports turf, arboriculture, lawn care and snow and ice management. For a full schedule visit the show’s website.

Daily highlights include:

Tuesday

Dr. Ronald Calhoun of Michigan State University will present three sessions throughout the day on weed control, plant growth regulators and herbicide use on sports fields and golf turf.

A team from Cornell University … Dr. Jennifer Grant, Dr. Frank Rossi, Walter Nelson and David Chinery … will present Cornell’s Organic Lawn Care, a four-part session that is part of the Be Green Organic Yards NY initiative by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

Round table discussions will be held on topics such as, the annual bluegrass weevil, Clean Water Act and plant growth regulators.

The ISA exam will be held for tree industry professionals from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

At the trade show, participants will be able to buy from businesses representing a variety of green industries including the golf, turf, arborist and landscape sectors.

Wednesday

Consulting Arborist Joseph Murray will present three tree care sessions on how tree hormones are influenced by environmental signals, the biology behind tree pruning and the antagonistic relationship between trees and turf.

David Linehan of Jim Girard Landscape Maintenance will discuss the impact of the New York State Invasive Species Council Law on the landscape industry.

Golf and sports turf presentations will include putting green rootzone management irrigation efficiency. Snow and ice management sessions will be offered on data collection, contracts and operations reviews.

The team from Cornell will present “Reduced Chemical Management on Golf Turf.”

Thursday

Dr. Frank Rossi will present a grant research update on late season fertility, while Dr. Marty Petrovic will give an update on his nitrogen application rate study.

Other sessions include obstacles to sustainable golf turf management, a pesticide education course on label comprehension, transportation, storage and disposal.

The Empire State Green Industry Show will be held at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.
