PCC Realty LLC, which is controlled by the owners of Pinehurst Resort, today announced that it will not reopen the newly-acquired Pit Golf Links at least for the remainder of 2011.
After an extensive review, PCC officials determined that because of current economic conditions and the required capital investment, it would not be feasible to reopen the course at this time.
“We have a high opinion of the Pit Golf Links, but it’s no secret that the golf industry in general has struggled during this economic downturn. We will continue to evaluate the property, but will not open the golf course this year. Our focus remains on the newly restored Pinehurst No. 2.” said Bob Dedman, Jr., owner of PCC Realty and Pinehurst Resort.
PCC Realty will continue to operate a general maintenance schedule at the Pit with a focus on maintaining the course’s fairway corridors.
#PCC Realty acquired the 225-acre, Aberdeen golf course in February. The Pit had been closed for several months and had been sold through foreclosure proceedings. Along with neighboring property already owned by PCC Realty, the Dedman family controls 925 contiguous acres.
The Pit, which is located off N.C. 5 in Aberdeen, opened in 1985 after being sculpted out of a reclaimed sand quarry.
