Sean O’Brien named Marriott’s Golf Grounds Manager of the Year

Marriott Golf, one of the world’s premier golf operators, recently announced that Sean O’Brien, Director of Grounds for Hawk’s Landing Golf Club at the Orlando World Center Marriott in Orlando, Fla., has been named Golf Grounds Manager of the Year.

This award is based on performance excellence for current and previous years in various categories, including maintaining turfgrass conditions, successful large scale renovation or construction projects, loss prevention efforts, personnel development, operating within budget, active pursuit of industry-wide certifications and education, and more.

“We are happy to recognize Sean O’Brien as our Golf Grounds Manager of the Year,” said David Robinson, Senior Director of Golf Grounds, Marriott Golf. “On behalf of the Marriott Golf family, we are thrilled to recognize Sean for his commitment to excellence. He is truly deserving of this honor as he is committed to ensuring that Marriott Golf customers enjoy a first-class experience and product every time they visit the course.”

In addition to receiving this prestigious award from Marriott Golf, O’Brien was recently recognized as the Florida Chapter Award winner for Resorts by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) and Golf Digest magazine as part of the Environmental Leaders in Golf Awards (ELGA). The ELGA recognizes golf courses worldwide, along with their staff members, for their commitment to environmental stewardship.

Designed by noted golf course architect Robert Cupp Jr., Hawk’s Landing Golf Club is a scenic blend of native Florida wildlife and tropical vegetation. At just over 6,600 yards, the par 71 layout is one of Florida’s premier resort golf experiences.
